2019 PE Week & more...

A Week of Community...

It has been a week of community, with a lot of opportunities for students, staff and families - current and old - to come together:

  • Old Scholars from 1979 gathered on Saturday for their 40 Year Reunion

  • Students across the College joined together with other classes, to participate in a range of sporting activities for PE Week

  • Saturday Morning Sport wraps up the season this Saturday

  • Reception to Year 5 students and their families will gather tonight for their End of Year Twilight Assembly.  The Year 6 Graduation will follow next week, on Thursday 28 November.

  • The final meeting of the Parents & Friends Association, for 2019, begins at 6:45pm tonight, Wednesday 20 November; to be followed by the 2019 Fete Wrap Up meeting, from 7:30pm.  

  • RSVPs for the End of Year Mass are due this Friday 22 November

Amelia Bradshaw Turns 8!

You know the school year is quickly coming to an end when Year 12s are well into their examinations and the Christmas Pageant has passed us by.  And, much like the Southern Hemisphere's largest public parade, the Week 5 Bulletin is not to be missed.  Inside this week's issue:

  • Details about the End of Year Mass of Thanksgiving; to be held in 2019 for Years 3 to 12 students and their families on Tuesday 3 December.  Invitations are coming home today.  We as that families please ensure they have returned their RSVP no later than Friday 22 November.

For the first time, Reception - Year 2 students will have an age-appropriate day time liturgy on Thursday 5 December, instead of attending the evening Mass.  

  • We congratulate the 2019 Children's University students, who attended their Graduation Ceremony on Monday evening.
  • There are photos from Year 8 Retreat and the Year 11 Drama production of 'Amelia Bradshaw Turns 8'.

  • Senior Sports Captains for 2020 are announced, and the results of the Year 6-9 Swimming Carnival are in.

  • The 2019 Vinnies Christmas Appeal begins.

  • News from the Library.

  • Don't forget: the final Parents & Friends Meeting for 2019 is on 6:45pm, Wednesday 20 November.  To be followed by the final Fete Meeting from 7:30pm.

Our dedicated team of Parent Convenors have taken time to thank the many businesses, donors and people that have supported a stall and, ultimately, the 2019 Fete & Auction.  Thank you to all and enjoy the read in the week 4 Bulletin.

  • The City of Adelaide is seeking feedback in relation to the new parking controls that currently affect the St Dominic's Priory College community.  The consultation period closes 5:00pm Monday 18 November.  More information visit: http://yoursay.cityofadelaide.com.au/nth-adl 

  • Growth Mindset Day in the Primary School, who are also looking forward to welcoming their new 2020 classmates to Move Up Day later this week.

  • Year 10 Commerce students ran their own 'Business for a Day', raising $1000 for the Christmas Vinnies Appeal and Dare 2 Dream Foundation.

  • Stage 1 General Mathematics participate in a workshop at Flinders University recently, which emphasised the importance of mathematical learning and reasoning, and how it is of benefit to a wide range of professions.

  • Year 10 Geography have returned from their fieldwork visit to Kangaroo Island

Upcoming Dates:

  • Year 11 Drama production of 'Amelia Bradshaw Turns Eight!' is this Friday, 8 November.  Doors open 7:00pm for a 7:30pm start.  Tickets ($10/$5) at the door.

  • Year 12 Visual Arts Exhibition opens Tuesday 12 November - details inside the Bulletin.

  • Parents & Friends Meeting: 6:45pm Wednesday 20 November, to be followed by the final Fete meeting for 2019 from 7:30pm.  All welcome.

  • End of Year Mass will be held on Tuesday 3 December, for Year 3 - Year 12 students and their families.  All students will be dismissed at 2:30pm on this day, with a late start of 9:30am scheduled for Wednesday 4 December.

  • An End of Year Liturgy for Rec to Year 2 students will be held at 9:00am Thursday 5 December.  Families of these students are also welcome to attend.

Without a dedicated and generous group of parent convenors and staff working behind the scenes, we would not be able to run a successful Fete & Auction.  A big THANK YOU to each and every one of you.

Any parents who are interested in getting involved in 2020, or who are simply curious, are welcome to come along to the final, combined, Parents & Friends / Fete Meeting for 2019;  to be held on Wednesday 20 November.

  • We congratulate our recipients of the Mary MacKillop Award for Excellence

  • We celebrate the success of our poets, of whom 15 were published and 3 named award winners, at the annual Spring Poetry Festival.  This is more than any other school in the state; so well done, girls!

  • Our Primary Classes are looking forward to Growth Mindset Day on Friday and Move Up Day, next week.

  • The Year 4 and Year 6 Classes recently took part in the 'Aussie Backyard Bird Count'.

  • Year 11 Drama Production of 'Amelia Bradshaw Turns 8!' is announced... and you are all invited to her birthday party on Friday 8 November.  Tickets at the door from 7pm for a 7:30pm start.

FOUR MORE SLEEPS... until Fete 2019!!

The Week 2, Term 4 Bulletin is available online now.

Final Fete Reminders:

  • ROSTERS are now being finalised.  On the day, please check in directly with your nominated Stall, or, if you are unsure, drop by the Information Desk outside the Gym - a copy of all stall rosters will be there.  On behalf of the Parent Convenors, College Staff, and your daughters... THANK YOU for being a part of this community effort.  

  • ART UNION RAFFLE: Raffle books - sold or unsold - MUST be returned to the College Office no later than this Friday 25 October.  Additional tickets will be available for sale at (all) gates on Fete Day; with the cash prizes being drawn that afternoon.

  • AUCTION: The Live Auction Catalogue is available online here and was distributed to the College community last week.  Doors in the Hall open at 11am on Sunday.  Be sure not to miss the SILENT AUCTION, running currently to the live event - final (silent) auction bids close at 2pm.

  • CAKES & AFTERNOON TEA: Any donation of cakes or other baked goods would be much appreciated.  These can be dropped off to the College Reception on Friday or else delivered to the Hall (Cakes) or 9B Classroom (Atfernoon Tea) on Sunday morning.  Please note that we cannot accept any item that requires refrigeration (i.e cheesecakes, items with fresh cream / fruit) and, also, ensure that an ingredients slip is attached (see the back page of the latest Bulletins).

  • MONDAY LATE START: There will be a late start to classes on Monday 28 October.  School will begin at 10:50am sharp.  However, any students who are not at the Fete are expected to arrive at school at the normal time.  They will be supervised in the Library.

  • FETE EVENT PAGE: Be sure to mark yourself as 'going' or 'interested' on the Fete & Auction Facebook Event Page to keep up to date with further Fete information.

In Other News

  • We turned PINK on Friday 18 October, to show support in the fight to cure breast and gynaecological cancers.  $640 was raised and donated to the Cancer Council.

  • The Year 5 & 6 students are back from CAMP, with stories to tell!

  • The Year 3 Class have been learning about DIVERSITY.

  • The Year 9 Italian Classes have been immersed in Italian culture; attending the Lavazza Italian Film Festival.

  • Australian National Chemistry Quiz results are in.
