Welcome Back!

Ready, Set, Go!

We have opened the door to a full and interesting Term Two.  There is something significant for every one of us to contribute to this term's educational opportunities at St. Dominic's.  Special events include:

  • Parent Teacher Interviews tonight (Wednesday 2 May) and on Monday 7 May
  • The community's GALA Day on Friday 11 May (Week 2) - the theme in 2018 is Childhood / Disney!
  • Upcoming Winter Sports
  • NAPLAN Tests between Tuesday 15 - Thursday 17 May (Week 3)
  • The Parents and Friends Quiz Night on Friday 1 June (Week 5) - Tickets available NEXT WEEK
  • Mass for the Vinnies on Tuesday 5 June (Week 6)
  • School drama production of Peter Pan in Week 9

...and much else besides!

And, as you can see, across the road the construction of new Year 12 Centre at 74 Hill Street has well and truly begun, bringing to birth some long held dreams of the future for a school which, in its turn, has given so much to the life and fabric of North Adelaide since 1883.

Reports Coming Home Today

Reports Coming Home Today

Term Ends Friday 13 April

As the eleven week term one draws to a close, there is a sense that holidays are looming while work is being finalised.

End of term reports are a major formal communication between family and school.  The reports cover the academic results, either as both comments and marks for senior students and comments on progress for junior and middle school students.  Teachers often remark in the comments on progress that it would help a student to, "ask more questions."  Of course not every student feels able to "confidently involve herself in class discussions."  This can be related to shyness or to the process of formulating a question.

Parents can play a powerful part in encouraging children and youth to overcome the barriers and help their children to hear the "sound of their own voice," a very different proposition in a classroom setting from the informal exchanges at home.  Of course this is a two-way thing, with teachers making time and giving encouragement also.
In addressing the data available in the reports, one notes again and again that high attendance and punctuality rates, which are normally good at St. Dominic's, can make all the difference in a child's progress where they are cause for concern.

Please note that reports for all students are being sent home to parents today.

  • Parent Teacher Interviews: Inside report envelopes today is essential information for parents of students in Years 7-12 and for Year 6 in relation to elective subjects.  Everything needed in order to book parent-teacher interviews is explained.  Once again the link is given to enable your easy access to the booking procedure:

  • Term will end with NORMAL DISMISSAL on Friday 13 April

  • Term 2 will commence on TUESDAY 1 MAY

Balance in Learning

A Short yet Busy Week!

This short week after Easter has begun educationally in earnest.  Today the daughters of our Year 10 parents took part in a Road Safety Presentation.  By the end of this busy week Students will have well and truly committed time to a balance in learning, fundamental to the MYP profile of the learner, and absolutely fundamental to an appreciation of a true Dominican education.  The MYP profile of the balanced Learner defines it as:

"balancing the different aspects of our lives, intellectual, physical, spiritual and emotional to achieve well- being for ourselves and others"

By the end of the week many students will bring back to school an appreciation of the world beyond school, met through excursions into:  senior Chemistry, Digital Photography, Design Technology, French film, a Dominican student leaders gathering at Cabra, a Year 12 Visual Art and Design forum, a Petanque Cup excursion for French students and the list goes on.

Happy Easter

Happy Easter

Week 9 Bulletin

Millions of Christians around the world are journeying towards the most sacred days in our Calendar, as we enter into the meaning of Jesus' Last Supper, his journey to the cross of Calvary, and his Resurrection on the third day.

St Dominic's students, both primary and secondary, are challenged, according to their age, to reflect on the meaning of Easter, and the love of God revealed in Jesus for each and every one of us.  On Tuesday 27 March Fr Charles Gauci proclaimed John's Gospel at our Holy Week Reconciliation for Years 7 12.  Please join with us in spirit by reading it.

John 13:3-5, 12-17
During supper, Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going to God, got up from the table, took off his outer robe, and tied a towel around himself.
Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel that was tied around him.
After he had washed their feet, had put on his robe, and had returned to the table, he said to them, "Do you know what I have done to you?  You call me Teacher and Lordand you are right, for that is what I am.  So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet.  For I have set you an example, that you also should do as I have done to you."

  • SAPSASA State Carnival results are in!  Well done to all those who were selected to represent North Adelaide Districts.
