“Loved and Honoured, leading us to Greater Faith”

– Dominic de Guzman –

In early August we celebrate with thanksgiving the life of our founder St. Dominic de Guzman, born in Caluerega, Northern Spain, in 1170.  After so many centuries why is it that this humble but very dynamic man has left such a mark on so many millions of Christians around the world?  Each one of our students will have, by the time they have completed their education in a Dominican school, their own answer to that question.  Dominic himself would say that it does not matter whether he is remembered or not, If the truth of the gospel has been preached with fidelity to the message of Jesus.  We would perhaps reply: True Dominic, but you are, and have been an inspiration to so many down through the centuries.  We need this inspiration; you are loved and honoured in our school which bears your name.  You have come down to us as a man of God and a man of the people.

Our thoughts turn often to one of Dominic’s true followers, who was called from our community last term.  We would all agree that indeed Sr. Mary Anne Holland witnessed, as Dominic did, with humility and love and determination to live the Gospel message and to spread God’s word throughout her life.

This week representative staff and students will join in the celebrations of neighbouring Dominican Schools, Blackfriars Priory School, St. Mary’s College and Cabra College

Parents of St Dominic’s are warmly invited to join in our celebration of the Mass for the Feast of St. Dominic on next Tuesday 8 August in the Gym.
Please be seated by 11.30 am.  We would appreciate your reply to the invitation via this bulletin for numbers.
